Jonathan K. Torres
MD, MPH

Dr. Torres provides leadership to Promerica Health in his role as Laboratory Director. Dr. Torres graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed Residency training in Occupational Medicine at the University of Massachusetts. In addition, Dr. Torres earned his Masters of Public Health degree in Epidemiology. He is Board Certified in Occupational Medicine and a certified Medical Review Officer.

Dr. Torres has had an interesting and impressive career, including serving in United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon for aircrew members and their families. Dr. Torres has practiced occupational medicine in Maine for over 20 years and has worked with many large and small companies and municipalities during this time period. He currently serves on Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company’s (MEMIC’s) Medical Advisory Board.

One of Dr. Torres’ most recent accomplishments is becoming a Fellow in the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). The status of Fellow is the highest classification of membership in ACOEM. Fellowship distinguishes and recognizes members of the College for their training, accomplishments, and experience in occupational medicine at the national, component, and local levels, as well as the member’s academic scientific contributions.

Dr. Torres is a national speaker and an expert on treating patients holistically, as well as the identification of barriers that sometimes prevent patients from healing as expected.

Given his approach to patient care, it comes as no surprise that Dr. Torres was chosen as top physician in the field of Occupational Medicine in Down East Magazine’s “Maine TopDocs Physician Survey 2014.” The physicians who made the list were chosen through a peer review in which Maine doctors were asked who they would go to for help if their own family members had health concerns in specified areas.
