Donato J. Tramuto is “chairman in residence” at Promerica Health. In his role, Donato leverages decades of Fortune 500 health care leadership experience and high-profile health advocacy to shape the strategic growth of Promerica Health.
Prior to advising Promerica Health, Donato served as Chairman of the Board of Healthways (Nasdaq:HWY) and later as Chief Executive officer at Tivity Health®, Inc., (Nasdaq: TVTY), a leading health and wellness company with a portfolio of noteworthy brands (including Nutrisystem, South Beach Diet, SilverSneakers and more). During his tenure, he single handedly unleased the value of the business separating the two divisions in 2016 and redirecting the focus of the company on the Senior Fitness Business addressing Social Determinants of Health in that specific population.
Donato’s tenure at Tivity Health was further informed by prior executive and board leadership experiences at a host of venerable insurance, pharmaceutical, health technology and health services companies, including UnitedHealth Group, AllScripts, Caremark, Boehringer-Ingelheim and Merck.
Donato has been widely recognized for his commitment to social change and health care innovation, leading the New York Times to deem him “a global health activist.” As the founder and chair of The Tramuto Foundation, Donato has worked to advance young people’s rights to education and health care access and combat human right violations, providing scholarships to over 100 students in the process and Grants to nearly 50 organizations. Donato is also the founder of Health eVillages, a non-profit that leverages mobile health technologies to enrich health care access in some of the world’s most challenging clinical environments. Donato’s activism has earned him accolades, including the prestigious Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope and the RFK Embracing His Legacy Awards; he now serves as a board member for Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, chairman of its Leadership Council, and Co-Chairman of the RFK Human Rights – Italy, working in these roles and through his foundation to address workplace dignity and foster inclusion in the United States and throughout Europe.
Donato is a passionate champion of cutting-edge approaches to health care access, drug safety, and addressing the social determinants of health (SDOH), defined by the World Health Organization as the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age. Both personally and professionally, Donato has brought consumers, payers, health care practitioners and employers together to overcome SDOH challenges and disparities through collaborative nutrition, fitness and social programming.
An accomplished author, Donato wrote, Life’s Bulldozer Moments: How Adversity Leads to Success in Life and Business. He will be launching his second book in the fall of 2021.
